New babies!

I decided I would prefer to get my babies from a breeder. I have just not had any luck with craigslist or the pet stores. I do not like not knowing the background or getting potentially super unsocialized ratties, not to mention serious health concerns. So I have been researching and finally found a breeder not too incredibly far from me!

She is Southern Mischief Rattery and she has several babies that will be available 10/15/14. I picked out two cuties and am hoping to pick them up on October 17th!

This is little Boo. (aka Boo Bug)
He is a dumbo rex agouti berkshire! DOB 9/11/14

This is little Dill. (aka Dilly Bar)
He is a dumbo rex russian blue veriberk! DOB 9/14/14

Update!

Hello. Wow has it really been two years since updating?! Time really goes by quickly these days!
I have missed my ratties so and have been thinking about them more and more. Now that my daughter (Zoë) is almost 8 years old. I feel safe I can finally have them again! Since she understands better about her allergies and she has also been on some allergy medicine that has helped tremendously with her other allergies.
I have been looking on criagslist a lot but so far no luck. I am also having trouble finding a breeder that is not 7+ hours away from me.
I already ordered my New Martin's Skyscraper for them and have been collecting toys and hammocks whenever I buy stuff for the other pets.

Hello!

I cannot believe it has been well over a year since I updated this site. We found out last year that our then 4 year old daughter is allergic to rats! She had been around them since she was a baby (and is in several of the pics on this blog) without any problems. But after losing the girls at the end of 2010 we did not have rats for about 5 months and when I brought Loki & Oben home Zoë had swelling of her eyes and hives on her face and arms whenever she touched them. Because she did not understand and would not leave them alone I ended up taking them back to the breeder until we could have her allergies evaluated.

She has been tested and is allergic to numerous things, including rats & cats. However her reactions are not as severe now with treatment and since she is a year and a half older she understands more what "allergies" mean.

All this to say I have not had rats for about a year and a half and have missed them so. We even tried mice for a bit (since she is not allergic to them) as cute as they are... It is just not the same. I am going to wait until she is old enough to understand better and then get some babies once again.

The boys are home!

They are so sweet, curious and adorable! The one I named Loki is the more outwardly curious one, Oben is also very curious and sweet just not quite as quick to come running yet as Loki. But they are both wonderfully socialized and easygoing. Looks like they are both Siamese too, originally the breeder thought Oben was a Havana, but he is also getting points now. I was talking to another breeder friend of mine (Nicole at Rats Of keona) and she thinks since the litter had mink and black in it, that one of the boys is probably a mink point and the other a seal point. I think they are both beautiful! Oben is a little smaller and lighter shaded than Loki and has a darker nose smudge so far, but other than that they look just alike. :-)

Here is a pic in the temporary setup while they get used to me.

New pictures of the boys

The boys are almost 5 weeks old now (will be on this Wed) and they are so cute! I am picking them up on soon and can hardly wait! I have been thinking of names for them and so far really like Loki and Oben, but will wait and see what their little personalities are like too before deciding for sure.
